Canada Day!!

Happy Canada Day!!! (Happy Grandma day, too! - It's my Grandma's birthday today)

Well, it has only been Canada day for a short while here, and it's not Canada day at home yet, but that's ok. I wanted to wish everyone a happy day maybe a few hours earlier than usual!

I don't have any big plans for Canada day this year, except for wearing red and white, and telling my students that it is Canada day today.

When I went to Japan, I met a guy named David who is from Belgium, but he's a university student in Japan. He just visited Korea, and he liked it very much. Both Keri and I showed him around because we're nice like that haha. The 3 of us got to hang out again which was fun.

Today is Wednesday, which means the mood at work and home is generally in a slump, but that slump has become quite routine. I'm sure I've said it many times, but to keep myself going, I often look at the occasions that are on their way. So, I have Jeju Island at the end of this month, then in October my sister is coming to visit for my birthday! I'm really excited about that last one!! It will be fun, and it will be nice to show her around such a different part of the world.

Alright, I am going to have some coffee now or something. Again...

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slow month

Well, it has been HOT here. Today is 36 with the humidex and the last few days have been the same.

I was looking at my blog and I noticed that I have only posted 5 times in June! Probably because I have nothing new to say! Last night I was in Itaewon, and I met a few people from Canada, America, one person from South Africa, 2 guys from Austria, a guy from New Zealand and 2 guys from Britain. It was really fun. I always like the people I meet from around the world. The girl from South Africa has never seen snow!!!

If I try to remember, I have met people from Canada, America, Belgium, Japan, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia... I think there are many more, but I have met so many people here I can hardly remember!

Anyway, it's Sunday afternoon and I think I'm going to have Indian food for dinner which sounds lovely. Just thought I'd update!

June is nearing an end!

Hello all, I don't have any news I can surprise you with this time (my meals have all been dead, and not blood-based). But I should write something because I didn't write on the weekend.

It has been a good month. Our two new supervisors at work are good, and my classes are good too. I mean, there are always students who make me want to jump out of a window and land on spikes, but hey... all of us have those students.

Tonight is report card night, which means that I have to sit down and write 35 comments and input 35 report cards into the internet. It's really annoying, but it's part of the job so I guess I can't complain. It happens once a month.

I am learning a new sonata - Mozart (surprise surprise lol) No.9 in D major, K.311. I like it. Once again, it's a challenge, but I think I can do it. I went on a rant before, so I won't make this one long. The exposition is easy, but I think that the development (as always) will give me some problems. I have to sort out some fingerings and deal with some technical stuff in my left hand during the 2nd theme. I like it. It's catchy. It's funny, I've had the book for so long, but I still find new sonatas to learn, even though I've read through them all. I'm not sure how I pick one to learn, I just start to play it and I end up liking it I guess.

Tonight I made mandoo for dinner. It was delicious. It's the dumplings that are filled with noodles, meat and vegetables. They're really good. Right now I'm procrasinating and I should be doing more report cards. I will do that just after this.

My sister's 1st wedding anniversary is this coming weekend, and that's exciting. I can't believe it's been a year since that day! It seems like not too long ago! I still remember it well - they said it was supposed to rain, but it held off all day, and everyone looked fantastic! Then came the reception which had a nice dinner and chatting among friends & family. Then came the party which was a lot of fun!

Alright, I should get back to my report cards.

Buh bye now.

Dinner

Alright, well tonight we were going to go to Calbi, but we didn't quite make it there. It was closed, so we decided it was a good idea to go to a different place. I was with Mark, his sister and her fiancée (I think.. he may have been her husband.. I don't listen well).

Well, we ended up at the place with the live octopus which I once again endulged in. It wasn't my cup of tea, but hey, it's fun!

Then we went to this other place that had beef. It was good!! They served it with this soup which was actually quite delicious despite the name - "Cow Blood Soup". It's just broth with a huge chunk of cow blood cooked and brown in the middle of it. If you cut some cow blood off of the chunk and eat it with rice, it was really tasty. Much better than the living octopus.

Anyway, I've included a picture of cow blood soup, although it's not the one we ate. It looks the same though.

Alright, I have to go to sleep and let cow blood and living octopus digest.

Wow. 6 months ago if I read this post, I would think that I've gone crazy!!

The weekend

Well, I had an interesting experience.

Mark's sister is visiting from America, so we decided it would be fun to go to Hongdae. It is a place that has a bunch of bars and foreigners, but not so many U.S. military foreigners. Anyway, we ended up going to an Ice Bar. That is exactly what it sounds like - everything is made of ice!! It was really 'cool'! Anyway, we were there for a long time, and then we went to sing some Karaoke. Next thing we knew it was morning time. So, long story short, we made it home in one piece, and tonight I'm taking it easy and sleeping in tomorrow!

It was really fun, and here are some pictures!! As you can tell the bar was QUITE empty, but hey - that meant that we could have fun by ourselves!

Beginning of June

Ok, so June is just beginning and things seem to be the same here. Work is normal. We had another supervisor quit (the one who just came to our branch). So, we had no supervisors on Friday, just the branch manager. As of Monday, we will get a new person in to replace Kevin, but no one yet to replace Eva I think.

The weather has been really nice here. It's at the stage of summer where the nights are hot enough to wear a t-shirt and jeans!

This morning I woke up to a blaring war siren. It was kind of scary. I went on CNN.com to see what was going on because they always have the live international news on. Nothing was happening on the website, so I just waited for the siren to stop and nothing has happened since. That was about 30 minutes ago. I'm sure it was just a test, but enough to wake me up for the day!

I'm not sure what's going on yet this weekend, because Korean class ended for the session. They'll probably start back up again in a few weeks. I might go to Myong-dong to get shoes because I want brown shoes that I saw there.

I don't have too much news right now, but I thought I would update anyway just because it's the weekend. Alright, everyone. Have a good weekend!

Busan pictures

As promised, I have stolen pictures from Lindsay's camera and come up with my own photo album of the Busan trip a few weekends ago!

Here they are! Sorry they are out of order, but putting pictures up on this thing is one of the most irritating processes... it's not very user friendly.

Oh, and I decided to change the blog to a blue theme instead of green!

The big bridge in Busan

Me and the big bridge

The gang at the beach

The beach from the hotel window

Real palm trees! They were everywhere!

Hanging out on the beach

At the market

Back at the beach

Back at the market - these are oversized earth worms you can eat. (I didn't).

The market again - selling fish like this is very common here! Just on a block of ice.
